Boozhoo!
Welcome to Kettle and Stony Point Hillside School. The school
was established in 1995, after a long absence from the Community.
Hillside School is located on the Southern Shores of Lake Huron,
in Chippewa territory. This year the school welcomes a new principal
Ms. Cathy Hampshire, who brings with her a great deal of experience
working in First Nation schools.
There are 157 students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. The
school is community based which proudly preserves and renews our
cultural identity. The official language that the students learn
is Ojibwe.
From the early mornings to the late afternoons, different staff
work tirelessly to make sure that the time students spend with
us is both meaningful and productive. This year we are taking
on a new endeavour of having our teachers’ complete DRA
assessments and our students to complete the EQAO testing in May.
Our students are involved in such activities as Agriculture in
the Classroom, Native Youth Olympics, Competitions through the
IEC (Spelling Bee, Story Telling), fundraising through different
organizations- Jump Rope for Heart, Hop-a-Thon for Muscular Dystrophy,
Terry Fox Run. In addition, our students participate in various
friendly athletic competitions with students from surrounding
provincial schools
Our binoojiihyag (children) are our future of our community.
